Can Vijay Deverakonda's gamble pay off?

Vijay Deverakonda may be in for a gamble of sorts. As per reports, the 'World Famous Lover' actor is going to debut in Hindi with 'Fighter', to be directed by Puri Jagannadh. Karan Johar has been the instrumental force behind this.
Has VD just staked a lot on 'Fighter'? It's a gamble at an important level. Puri Jagannadh is largely an untested talent in Hindi. And 'iSmart Shankar' is his only hit in years. So, can we be sure that he is in his best form to direct Deverakonda's Hindi film debut?
As per the buzz in the industry, KJo is going to ensure that a star Bollywood actress romances VD in the film. His sense of judgement is not impeccable, as his love for 'Dear Comrade', a defective product, shows.
'Fighter', to be co-produced by Puri and Charmme, will go on the floors in early 2020. Can this one make Deverakonda a pan-Indian star?
