Tragic Shooting Claims Lives in South Edmonton: Indian-Origin Victim Among Those Killed

In a tragic turn of events, a shooting in South Edmonton, Canada, claimed the lives of two individuals, one of whom was of Indian origin, on Monday. Identified as Buta Singh Gill, the owner of Gill Built Homes, based in Edmonton, the incident occurred on April 8, as reported by ANI.
According to the EPS, the shooting occurred at 12:00 a.m. on April 8, 2024, at the intersection of Cavanagh Boulevard Southwest and Cherniak Way Southwest. In response to the reported shooting, Southwest Divisional Patrol Officers arrived and discovered three males injured at that location.
EPS released this statement, confirming the incident: "At approximately 12:00 pm today, Monday, April 8, 2024, Southwest Branch patrol officers responded to the report of a shooting in the area of Cavanagh Boulevard SW and Cherniak Way SW."
The three casualties were evaluated by Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and it was established that the two men, aged 49 and 57, had died on the scene, while the 51-year-old also succumbed to his death from serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
The EPS Homicide Section has taken over the investigation and says they are not currently looking for any suspects. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we set the autopsy schedules for the deceased.
The Buta Singh Gill family successfully identified the body. Most of the 50 people who gathered to mourn the loss were from the South Asian home-building community. Mohinder Banga, who was once an Edmonton city councillor, was very sad and said that Gill was a very altruistic man.
Eyewitness Lindsay Hilton called it a harrowing scene, followed by what the shooter had looked like and the chaos that had proceeded. EPS did assure citizens that all investigations were underway and that there were no safety concerns at that time. The tragedy has left the community in deep shock, prompting them to mourn the untimely demise of the area-respected local businessman.
