Captain talks tough

Actor Vijayakanth is in no mood to mince words.

If anything, he has been in an aggressive frame of mind, metaphorically wagging the fingers in the face of politicians.

Yesterday was no different. He alleged that he was getting threats from the government, warning him against going ahead with his plans to launch a political party.

But Vijayakanth is unfazed.

"Though I have received threats from the government, I am keen on going ahead with the launch of my party this September'. 'I have a total of 40 lakh fans all across the State and no doubt we would get at least 100 Assembly seats in the forthcoming Assembly election which my party would be contesting without aligning with anybody else".

Vijayakanth however did not specify which government --- Central or State --- was behind the threats. His was an open-ended statement.

"My fans affectionately call me the future Chief Minister and I should live up to their dreams", Vijayakanth said and added, 'I have not sought the support of any film personality though I hold the office of Nadigar Sangam's president."

It may be recalled that 24 per cent of the public in the State favored Vijayakanth to start a political party of his own in an opinion poll conducted by Loyola College in Chennai recently.
