Chanakya: Gamble backfires as film is a BO disaster

'Chanakya' has turned out to be a colossal dud at the box-office. The film, which hit the screens on Saturday, made just about Rs 2.25 Cr (Share) in two days.

Anil Sunkara had produced the movie on an ambitious scale. Its budget is higher than that of Gopichand's previous movies. Director Thiru and cinematographer Vetri Palaniswamy ensured that the making was smart. "The film's budget is not as high as we think. But since it has done pathetically at the box-office, losses are inevitable," says a source.

Starring also Mehreen Pirzada and others, the film's gamble of clashing with 'Sye Raa' has backfired completely.
