Characters in Majili are relatable: Divyansha Kaushik

Divyansha Kaushik, who will be seen opposite Naga Chaitanya in Majili, says in this interview that her role in the movie is quite crucial. Ahead of the film's release on April 5, catch her talk about the romantic drama, how it was working with Chay and Samantha, crushing on a cricketer and more.

Tell us about your background. Is 'Majili' your first official release?

I am from Delhi. It has been three years since I started living in Mumbai. I interned in acting. I got my portfolio shot and started giving auditions. That's how I got 'Majili'. My first movie is a Tamil movie, which will release in May or June.

How did you prepare yourself for acting?

I had done workshops under three casting directors and actors in Mumbai. I have done commercials, two of which are yet to be released. Hero Hondo, Pantene and another company are the names.

What is your character like in 'Majili'?

My character's name is Anshu. She has a lot of love inside her. How she meets the hero (Naga Chaitanya), how they fall in love is interesting. There is laughter, there is action, etc. He is very supportive and down-to-earth. He is an amazing co-star. 'Priyathama' and 'Naa Gundello' are my favourite songs in the movie.

Are you picking up Telugu?

I am not fluent in Telugu but I understand a bit when others speak. Tamil is much harder. Comparatively, Telugu is easier. And the team, mainly director Shiva Nirvana sir, was great to work with. In Mumbai, I have a couple of Telugu-speaking friends. I get to speak to them.

How was it working with Shiva Nirvana?

The director has really helped me in picking up acting. He gave me enough liberty to do it in my own way. He would explain each scene and give me freedom. He used to guide me very well. The film is detailed. You will connect to the different characters somewhere or the other. As an actor, it was easy for me to grasp what he was looking for.

How was it working with the Chay-Sam duo?

It was great. I had known about Chay and Sam even before coming into films. I had watched 'Ye Maya Chesave'. I feel blessed that I got to share the screen with them. I watched Sam's 'Makkhi' ('Eega') countless number of times. Every time it is aired on TV, I watch it. I love her acting as well as Rajamouli sir's direction.

Are you into watching Telugu movies?

I have watched 'Arjun Reddy' and really liked it. 'RX 100' is another good Telugu film that I watched. I am planning to watch films like 'Rangasthalam'.

What are you looking for as an actress?

I want to do all kinds of roles, more than just glamour. I love dramas and comedies. Hopefully, I will get to do different genres. I am looking for opportunities in Hindi as well. I believe that I can't have restrictions as an actor. But I prefer characters that have depth in them, roles that are not just about having a pretty face.

Do you have a crush on any celebrity?

I have a crush on Virat Kohli like so many.
