`Chembada' - the debut directorial venture from scenarist Robin Thirumala is finally ready to grace the theaters as the first movie of the year. The movie which was for long in the making has to face plenty of problems before getting completed. `Chembada' is now planned as musical action thriller told in the backdrop of a music band.

`Chembada' meaning `Red Army' is the name of the music band in the movie who tour far off places in search of popularity. The troop becomes much popular soon after the arrival of Manu, a young singer who migrates from a lone village to the city with his own agendas. Apart from music, the troop members are also interested in cleaning off the menaces from the society, through their own ways.

The movie based on a story by M D Ajayaghosh is scripted to suit the big screen by the director.  Bala is Manu, the lead player in the movie while Sreedevika appears as Bhadra, the lead female singer of the band. Also in the cast are Kalabhavan Mani, Aravind, Anu Anand, Sonu, Abu Salim, John Jacob, Raju S Nair, Ronson and Vincent.

Director Robin Thirumala himself tunes the eight songs of the movie in the name Musafir. Prakash Maarar, Firoz Thikkodi and the director himself pens the lyrics to the songs of which one is sung and is pictured on upcoming singer Smitha Nishanth.

The movie was also in news as the director has to edit out one song pictured on Muslim league state secretary M K Muneer , due to protest from political circuits. The song sequence kicked off a controversy as many in his party started raising questions about the religious stands of Mr Muneer.

The movie which was shot at Chennai, Agra, Dubai and Kochi is produced in the banner of Garden films by Abdul Azzeez, and Jagadheesh K Nair.
