A man from Chennai, identified as Venkatesh, was set ablaze by his girlfriend, Asha, after she learned of his affair with a colleague.

The incident happened on Sunday when Venkatesh, who is a constable by profession, was allegedly having an argument with Asha regarding his affair. Venkatesh, who hails from Villupuram, was previously married to a woman named Jaya, while Asha was married to another guy, with whom she has a son and a daughter. When Venkatesh left Jaya for Asha, the latter left her husband as well and moved in with Venkatesh in his police quarters along with her children. Asha recently learned of Venkatesh's affair with one of his colleagues through her friend and got into an argument with him regarding the same. Venkatesh was reportedly in a drunken state at the time and Asha poured kerosene over him before he tried to run away. However, Asha set him ablaze before he could make his escape.

Venkatesh has suffered 80 percent burns and is currently receiving treatment at the Kilapauk Medical College and Hospital, while Asha has been arrested after interrogation.
