Chennai: CBSE school principal sentenced to 5 years in prison

A former principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, also known as KV, in Chennai’s Ashok Nagar, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment after being found guilty of bribery under the prevention of corruption act by a special CBI court.

As per a report by TOI, the principal, identified as E Ananthan, had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh in 2018 from a vegetable vendor promising a seat for his son in Class 1 in the school under the RTE (Right to Education) act. The vegetable vendor, identified as Rajendran, was not willing to pay the amount and later approached the CBI regarding the same. A trap was laid wherein the principal was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

Principal special judge for CBI cases, N Venkatavaradan, also reportedly concluded after going through the documents that the principal was undeniably guilty of the charges and sentenced him to five years in prison. The court also issued him a penalty of Rs 1 lakh.
