Following the recovery of a woman's dismembered body parts in a dumpyard in Chennai's Perungudi, police have begun a probe to unravel the identity of the woman.

A hand and two legs of the unidentified woman were the only body parts found in the garbage disposal. They were first discovered by earthmovers who were looking to collect scrap products from the yard. A golden bangle and a butterfly tattoo were found on her hand. The police, after a brief study, have assumed that the woman was aged 35 at the time of her death. CCTV footage revealed that a lorry that transports garbage from the transfer station at Valluvar Kottam had brought the body parts to the dumpyard in Perungudi. The police also reported that the woman was allegedly murdered two days ago. A search has been launched to discover the torso and head of the victim.

There have been no claims made to the body so far. The dismembered parts have been sent to the Government Hospital in Chromepet, while police are working on unravelling the mystery behind the murder.
