Chinmayi has openly accused legendary Tamil film lyricist and scholar Vairamuthu of sexual misconduct on more than one occassion.  Actress and social commentator Kasthuri has given a clean chit to Vairamuthu stating that every time she has met him he has spoken strongly about women empowerment and has shared his deep Tamil knowledge with her.  She also has asserted that she has never heard any controversial news about the poet from industry people and is shocked at the allegations flying on someone she has looked up to.

Kasthuri has also stated that Chinmayi is a good friend of hers and she has found the singer to be a bold,  straightforward and honest individual and will speak only after weighing the truth in the subject.  She has concluded by giving a wake up call to Vairamuthu "It is only right that we wait for the other side to present his version. Any delay or dallying in that will only serve to confirm the allegations against him."
