Chiranjeevi's breakout hit 'Khaidi' completes 38 years

'Khaidi', starring Chiranjeevi in the role of a hardworking student, hit the screens on this day (October 28) way back in 1983. Directed by Kodandarami Reddy, the action film turned around Chiru's shaky career and made him a superstar.

As the film completes 38 years, it is time to take stock of its stellar achievements. It was the first Chiru film that completed 100 days in 20 centers. Six of those centers were direct ones. What is more, 'Khaidi' had a glorious 365-day run in 2 centers. The film had a successful 200-day run in five centers.

Its 50-day gross stood at Rs 1.37 Cr, while the 100-day gross clocked Rs 2.02 Cr. It was an all-time record at that time.

A fan notes that the movie completed 81 days of full-hall shows at Vijayawada's Shailaja theatre, with three shows per day.

An interesting fact is that the blockbuster's launch event was graced by Superstar Krishna. Also featuring Madhavi, Sumalatha, and Rao Gopal Rao, 'Khaidi' had music by Chakravarthy. Idemitabba, Mera Mera Merupula, Ragulutondi, and Gorinta Poosindi were sung by the SPB-Susheela duo.
