'Kaatru Veliyidai', with its brilliant trailers, has been rising expectations among fans. AR Rahman's music score, Karthi and Aditi's chemistry, and Mani Ratnam's artistry are true assets to the movie. Moreover, from first looks, the cinematography also proves to be superb.

But what made director Mani Ratnam pick the the talented Ravi Varman to be the man behind the camera for 'Kaatru Veliyidai'? Ravi explains himself in an exclusive interview with IndiaGlitz. Here's a brief transcription of what he said:

"I've been trying to work with Mani Sir for a while now. I realized I can't keep asking for chances. I needed to prove myself first and then approach him with the image I've created. If I was really eligible, then he will consider me. So, I started taking measures..

I did my work, and then showed it to him. I met him 2 days later when I came from Mumbai. That's when he talked a lot to me. He said, You have walked the right path, whatever you like to do, go ahead with it". Since he showed liking, I was expecting his call.

I was doing 'Ram-Leela' at that time when he sent a message asking me where I was. He wanted to meet me. I won't ever forget that moment. So I realized my chances were good. I went after 2 days, and he told me that we were doing this movie ('Kaatru Veliyidai').I broke into tears hearing that.

'Kaatru Veliyida'i took about 2 years to start, and I spent a lot of time with Mani Sir during these 2 years. This was my biggest opportunity with him, and I had to prove myself. That's how I got into the film".

Talking about the veteran director, Ravi Varman added "He is professionally a very strong person. When it comes to work, he is very professional, and after the shoot, he becomes very friendly. At times, he was a great father, sometimes, a great teacher, and most of all, a very good friend."

'Kaatru Veliyidai' is a romantic drama of a fighter pilot who recollects his love for a local doctor. Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari have played the lead roles and AR Rahman has rendered the music album. Madras Talkies has produced the film. The film eyes for release on the 7th of next month.
