Coimbatore Cops Bond with Public, Conduct Harmony Meetings

In Coimbatore, the police have come with a new initiative to improve the bonding with the public. They have been conducting ‘community harmony meetings’ in which they meet and interact with the public and exchange phone numbers. As of now, 7 such meetings have taken place. All inspectors are expected to organize such meetings in their station limits.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) L Balaji Saravanan said: “The community harmony meeting will help the police to get area-wise information. Our police officers are meeting the public in person at the communal harmony meetings. They exchange phone numbers with residents of the area. The residents are advised to inform the police if they find anyone moving strangely in their area. This would help curb crimes.” He also believed that such meetings will help bridge the gap between the citizens and the cops.

In addition, beat police officers have been encouraged to share their contact details with traders, auto drivers and residents to get immediate information about crimes in the locality. The Tamil Nadu police have been known for their quick and effective action. Hopefully, this latest move will help prevent and deal with crimes even more efficiently.
