TN woman hit by lorry while trying to avoid AIADMK flagpole

Barely two months after an illegal hoarding set up by AIADMK's ex-councillor Jayagopal resulted in the tragic death of a 23-year-old Chennai techie, another such incident has been reported from Coimbatore, where a 30-year-old woman came under the wheels of a lorry while trying to avoid a falling flagpole set up by the AIADMK on a highway.

The woman, identified as Anuradha Rajeswari, is reportedly the only person who provides for her family and was on her way to work at Gokulam Park, Coimbatore when the incident happened. She has suffered fractures on both her legs after the vehicle's front wheel rammed over them, and is currently admitted to the ICU of a local private hospital. "Rajeswari fell off her scooter when the party's flagpole, erected on the side of Avinashi Road near Goldwin's bus stop, started to fall towards her. She lost balance of her vehicle, which fell in front of an approaching truck. Her legs were crushed by the lorry and she received multiple fractures. An FIR has been registered against the lorry driver," a police official reportedly said. Reports add that the flagpole was set up to welcome Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy who was visiting Coimbatore.

Although the police have booked the lorry driver, identified as Murugan, for speeding, the woman's family allege that the flagpole was responsible for the accident. An FIR has been registered against the lorry driver under sections 279 (Rash driving), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC, according to a report from a news agency. The matter is, however, still under investigation.

On September 12, 23-year-old techie Subhasri Ravi was killed in an accident on the 200-feet Radial stretch along the Thuraipakkam- Pallavaram road in Chennai after an illegal AIADMK hoarding fell on her, causing her to lose balance and fall down. She was then run over by a tanker lorry that came behind her.
