The Congress has served a notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan intimating the party's decision to move the 'no confidence motion' against the BJP-led Centre.

MPs from Tamil Nadu, Telengana and Andhra Pradesh have been protesting jointly for the past two weeks within the premises of Parliament to put pressure on the Centre to set up the Cauvery Management Board to regulate the distribution of Cauvery river water to all the concerned States besides demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh.  This protest has stalled Parliament proceedings for the past two weeks.

In the meantime, Congress and Trinamool Congress MPs have also been demanding a thorough probe on the multi-crore PNB scam.  Soon after the House convened yesterday, the Speaker informed that it was the day to remember martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukh Dev who were hanged to death on the same day in 1931 by the British during the Independence Day struggle.

She had to postpone the proceedings to the afternoon session in view of protests by opposition party MPs.  In the meantime, Lok Sabha Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge is to present a notice to Speaker Sumitra Majahan informing her of the party’s decision to move a ‘no-confidence motion’ against the Centre on Tuesday as Monday would see many MPs absenting themselves in view of ‘Ram Navami’ celebrations.

Congress has issued a whip instructing all its MPs to be present in Parliament on Tuesday when the no confidence motion would be put to vote.  It has also appealed to all opposition parties to cut across party lines and support its motion against the BJP.
