With the whole world coming to a standstill due to the deadly Coronavirus pandemic, now it has made an impact on the biggest movie celebration event in the world - the Oscar awards ceremony, which has been postponed.

It has been announced officially by the Academy of motion picture arts and sciences that the 93rd Oscars awards has been postponed by eight weeks to April 25 due to the coronavirus pandemic which has resulted in closure of movie theaters and affected the Hollywood release calendar.

While many movies are opting direct OTT release, many other movies have been postponing their release dates for theatres to reopen and hence, the cut-off date for Oscar-eligible films has been extended from December 31, 2020 to February 28, 2021. The Oscar awards ceremony was originally scheduled for February 28, 2021.
