Coronavirus scare: Kurnool event becomes national news

A particular religious event held in a village in Kurnool district has become a piece of national news for being a potential coronavirus-spreading event. Marking Ugadi, the residents of a village by the name of Kairuppa participated in thousands in a ritual that requires them to throw cow dung cakes at one another. In Kalluru, thousands participated in a procession of donkeys.

The local ritual has come to be reported widely because of the times we are living in. Not a single person wearing the mask, highlighted a report by News 18.

There is a curb on such events. In the absence of enforcement, such curbs remain only on the paper.

It may be noted that religious and political events have come in for flak because they are taking place at a time when India is witnessing the world's worst surge. Political parties are holding rallies in West Bengal, while Kumbh Mela is going on in Uttarakhand. Earlier this month, a mob comprising of thousands held a rally demanding the beheading of a Hindu priest in Bareilly, UP.
