India continues to log encouragingly low numbers on the COVID-19 front. Negative indicators are weak and positive news is more pronounced.

On Wednesday, the Union Ministry of Health said that the total active caseload of the country has fallen below the 2-lakh mark. "This is the lowest after 207 days. Globally, India has one of the lowest daily new confirmed COVID-19 cases per million population in the last 7 days," the Ministry added.

Recovered cases are 1,02,45,741 in number, increasing the Recovery Rate to 96.70%. And 80.43% of the new recovered cases are concentrated in 9 States/UTs. These are Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, UP, Tamil Nadu, MP, Gujarat, Rajasthan and West Bengal.

As per Prof. Shamika Ravi, active cases have been rising across most countries. However, India has seen a steady decline for 4 months. "Despite second/consecutive waves of infection and growth in active cases across most countries, the case fatality rate is falling steadily, globally," she says, adding that the CFR is 2.14% globally but just about 1.44% in India.
