Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has said that the party would move an impeachment motion in Parliament during the ensuing Budget Session for impeaching Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra.

It may be recalled that four senior Judges of the Supreme Court including Justice Kurien Joseph, Justice Chellameshwar and Justice Ranjan Gogoi had addressed an unprecedented press conference at the national capital two weeks ago, accusing the CJI Dipak Misra of acting in a ‘biased’ manner in allocation sensitive cases and not taking senior Judges into confidence while dealing with sensitive issues.

The Centre attempted some sort of behind=the=scenes mediation but it was apparent that the issue was far from over when none of the Judges were included in the Constitution Bench set up by the CJI early last week. People in particular and the judiciary in general is aghast at the turn of developments involving the top Court in the country.

Speaking to newsmen at the national capital, Yechury said that political intervention had become ‘inevitable’ in the issue which hadn’t yet been resolved by the BJP-led Centre for more than a fortnight. “We are planning to move an impeachment motion seeking impeachment of the CJI during the upcoming Budget session of Parliament,” the veteran Communist leader said.
