Cyclone Michaung creates havoc in Chennai with extreme rains and floods - Deets

We all know that rains and floods are not new for Chennai and its people. The monsoon always brings cyclones and heavy rains to coastal Tamil Nadu. The disaster December trend continues for Chennai as cyclone Michaung caused havoc capital city in the last few days.

Cyclone Michaung gave heavy rains and floods to the Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet and Chennai belt. As per the data, the rains started on Sunday morning and lasted till Monday night. Most of these regions received rainfall for more than 36 hours. The reports suggest that this was the highest amount of rainfall in Chennai in the last 47 years.

Yesterday, cyclone Michaung turned into a severe cyclonic storm. It stalled in the sea for most of the time and moved slowly which in turn caused extreme rainfall and floods in Chennai. Finally, the cyclone moved north towards Andhra Pradesh and the sun is back in the city. Michaung is expected to make landfall today near Nellore district.

It is said that the amount of rainfall was higher than the 2015 floods. However, the damage and death toll was not as bad as back then. On Tuesday, the city is getting back to normalcy with water being drained in many areas. Still, there are some places where the floods are high and the government has to look into it.
