Dandupalyam's success surprises producer

Dandupalyam, the film dubbed from Kannada, has been received well across the State. Producer Venkat says that many had told him that Kannada movies do not enjoy good market, but the film's openings (it released on Jan 25) have left the producer himself, the distributors quite happy.

He was pleasantly surprised to know that the film ran to packed houses on day one, even though there is no star cast to support its publicity.

Director Srinivasa Raju says that while the impression before its release was that it is a crime film, people are loving it after watching it. Dandupalyam-2 will be made soon.

BA Raju said that the film is running to packed houses in the 85 theatres in which it has been released. The Kannada version had collected a whopping Rs. 25 cr.

Kamal agrees to trim bits of Viswaroopam

Though initially it was thought that the court would give a judgement on the ban, it has advised Kamal Haasan to engage the Muslim leaders who have raised objections against the film. The film fraternity across the country is understandably outraged at what is happening to Kamal Haasan. In related developments, disgust has been expressed from Bombay to Hyderabad. While Mahesh Bhatt termed the humilition that Kamal has been subjected to as one of the darkest moments for the film world, he also described him as a "national treasure."

Kamal likely to appeal in SC today

Following the restoration of ban on Vishwaroopam by the Madras High Court, Kamal Hassan is said to be mooting an appeal in the Supreme Court. Earlier on the 30th, when a single-judge bench which is hearing the case lifted the ban, the Tamil Nadu government filed a petition in the wake of the order pleading the court to not lift the ban.

KV Anand's, of Rangam and Brothers fame, next movie is to star the Superstar Rajnikanth in it. Rumours have it that Rajni plays the role of a politician in this movie. The screenplay and direction will be manned by KV Anand himself while R Sunderrajan will be handling the story and dialogues.
