In a development that might be of concern, yet another disease outbreak has been reported in China. More than 3,000 people in the northwest part of the Covid-origin country have tested positive for brucellosis, a bacterial disease.

Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu province, is the hotbed of the infection. About 3,245 people have tested positive so far. What is the cause? Contact with livestock carrying Brucella is said to be the spreader. Resulting in the inflammation of testicles, the disease can lead to male infertility.

The outbreak was triggered initially by a dangerous leak at a pharma company in 2019. Also known as Malta fever or Mediterranean fever, headaches, muscle pain, fever and fatigue are some of its symptoms.

As per a medical body named CDC, human-to-human transmission of the disease is extremely rare.

More about how the disease outbreak was caused:

The pharma plant from where the leak happened is a state-owned enterprise. Staff members there had used "expired disinfectants for producing Brucella vaccines for animals between July and August 2019". As a result, the bacteria were not exhausted from the factory exhaust. The contaminated exhaust or gas is believed to have formed aerosols. The aerosols were transmitted through wind to a nearby Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute. This is where the livestock got infected. Over 200 people came in close contact with the animals there and got infected in turn.
