The third and final season of Dark has ended on a high, and Netflix's German sci-fi series presented the story of four interconnected families caught in a time-travel mystery which also involved the apocalypse. The complex final eight episodes introduced a second and also a third world, and had stunning revelations which presented unexpected and unseen versions of several characters, after Martha (Lisa Vicari) rescuing Jonas (Louis Hofmann) from the apocalypse during the end of the second season.

As Dark has finished, if you're looking for more sci-fi shows with interesting questions on human existence, the conflicts between good and evil, multiverse and apocalypse, here are some of the shows you must start watching now.

Counterpart (Amazon prime):

Counterpart deals with multiple worlds, and was a short Starz drama, which has two seasons and is a heady mix of sci-fi and espionage genres. The series presents a story about two worlds mirroring one another and connected by a secret crossing in Berlin. The series depicts a multiverse narrative with two versions of the same characters, and has interesting dual performances by J.K. Simmons, Olivia Williams, and Harry Lloyd.

Fringe (IMDb TV):

Fringe has a parallel world, with alternate versions of various characters, and focuses on mechanics of time travel. Conceived by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci, the five-season drama revolves around an FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), scientist Walter Bishop (John Noble), and his son Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) who use fringe science to investigate the existence of alternate universe.

Stranger things (Netflix):

Even during its premiere in 2017, Dark was compared to Netflix supernatural series Stranger Things which was set in the 80s, as it had the striking similarity of beginning with a child going missing. However Dark was deep and complex than Stranger Things, which revolves around a group of teenagers who battle monsters from an alternate dimension called Upside Down. The fourth season is expected to bring in time travel.

12 monkeys (Hulu):

Syfy's 12 Monkeys is an adaptation of the film of the same name, and revolves around Aaron Stanford who plays Cole, who travels back from 2043 to 2015 and joins hands with Amanda Schull's character, a virologist Dr. Cassandra Reilly, to prevent the release of a plague virus which can wipe out humankind. Like Dark, this one also involves forbidden romance and has a looping, non-linear narrative.

The Expanse (Amazon prime):

The Expanse is a sci-fi space drama based on the book series by James S.A. Corey, and is set in a future where humanity has colonized solar system, and there are conflicting relationships between the ruling class Earth, the working class Belt, and the militarized Mars which are all in trouble following the discovery of a deadly alien particle. The Expanse is about a group of people with different views on the universe who join together to fight for a better world.

Doctor Who (HBO Max):

Doctor Who, the British sci-fi show is about a Doctor who is an alien with the ability to regenerate and travel in the universe in a time machine cum spaceship TARDIS, alongside a human companion who helps him. Being an adventure show, it can be watched with the whole family, despite several scary episodes and presence of monsters. One of the popular episodes is "Blink," with a non-linear narrative and confusing moments.

Continuum (Amazon prime):

Continuum is a sci-fi show about the complexities of good and evil, their shades of gray, and has Rachel Nichols as Kiera Cameron, a law enforcement officer in a future corporatocracy traveling back in time from 2077 to 2012 following the fleeing of a terrorists group Liber8, and she gets taken with them. She joins forces with Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen), a genius who knows she's from the future and can help her stop Liber8 from changing the future and help her get back home to her husband and son. The four seasons series presents moments of the past affecting the future, transcending timelines.
