A bride was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant during her wedding ceremony in Delhi’s Shakarpur on Thursday.

The bride, Pooja, was on the stage exchanging garlands with the groom when an unidentified person fired gunshots at the bride, leading to a severe injury in her leg. “Don’t know who the person was. A bullet brushed past her legs, so we went to the hospital. The police were later called here,” the groom Bharat said in a statement. The 19-year-old was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. When her condition was stabilized, she returned to the venue and the rituals were resumed.

The police conducted a preliminary probe and reported that the miscreant must have escaped when the bride was being taken to the hospital. The investigation is currently underway.
