Readers must by now be fed up of any reminders to demonetization`s impact on the common man as most of us would have just been dehydrated by waiting in long quees not to deposit black money but to draw our own to meet day to day expenses.

Well about the effect of demonetization on Kollywood its better to first look at the positives and for now it is the fodder for standup comedians in all the major tv channels who garner claps and hoots by bringing up the subject. It does not seem to have affected big star vehicles as Suriya`s Thaana Serndha Koottam`, Jayam Ravi-Vijay project, Dhanush`s VIP2` have begun on schedule and Ajith`s

Thala 57` shoot is continuing without any hassles.

Coming to the negative impact close to twenty small films planned to begin production in November-December have been indefinitely postponed, meaning an uncertain future for the mostly newcomers and long time aspirant directors. Film shootings of smaller stars have been discontinued due to the cash crunch as most of the crew have to be paid on a daily basis. Films that had confirmed release dates like Vishal`s Kaththi Sandai`, Vijay Antony`s Yeman`, Vijay Sethupathi`s Kavan` and others have moved to January 2017. The biggest hit (not as in success) is on the theaters as the mood for entertainment is at its lowest ebb among the public. The warning signs read that unless a film is highly entertaining or path breaking, box office success is not guaranteed in November-December even for a star vehicle.
