Devadasu

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Telugu Comments

The name Devadasu conjures images of a man hopelessly in love. It all started with ANR who immortalized the character several decades back. And with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's too making an extravaganza with SRK, Aishwarya and Madhuri, the name is strongly etched in people's psyche with a particular image.

So to make a general love story with the same name takes courage and conviction. YVS Chowdary sure has that. He sure has that sense of theater. The man created the right buzz with a stylishly opulent invitation (36-pages) that set the expectation rising. Devadasu carries the tag line Premalo Munigi Telandi.

The film that was launched in December 2004 has taken its time to make it here. But YVS, whose last venture was Seetayya, is unfazed by the delay. Instead, he focuses his ideas and energies on the movie itself.

As the name suggests, It is a love story with plenty of contemporary idioms. `It will be a fun-filled entertainer that would appeal to all the segments,' he says.

The film stars newcomers Ram and Ileana. Both ooze youthful exuberance. Ram has a very good feel about him. While Ilena is already a hot property in the industry, having signed up film with Mahesh Babu. Ram is a nephew of producer Sravanthi Ravi Kishore while Ileana was a Fair & Lovely model.

The movie has been shot extensively in USA and the production qualities are said to be very high.

YVS has settled for Chakri for scoring the music (Usually it is MM Keeravani for YVS). The director says Chakri has come out with splendid stuff.

The movie is set for Sankranthi release.
