Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi is currently acting in the big budget movie Laabam which is directed by SP Jhananathan. Besides acting,he is also co-producing the movie along with Aarumuga Kumar who had earlier directed the comedy Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren with Vijay Sethupathi.

This movie is a social entertainer with Vijay Sethupathi playing farmers union leader and Shruti Haasan, the female lead playing a musician. Besides the movie also has Jagapathi Babu as the villain, and Kalaiyarasan and Daniel Anne Pope as part of the cast.

It has now been revealed that actress Dhanshika who had earlier worked with Jhananthan in Peranmai is a part of this movie and that she has already started shooting her scenes with Jagapathi Babu. In 2013, Dhanshika was supposed to play Vijay Sethupathi's pair in the movie Sangu Devan which was dropped.
