On January 17th this year, leading actor Dhanush and his wife Aishwarya Rajinikanth the daughter of Superstar Rajinikanth announced their separation after 18 years of marriage. The couple share two sons Yatra and Lingaa and though attempts were made for a patch up by elders of both the families it didnt succeed.

In meantime Dhanush and Aishwarya jointly produced the movie 'VIP' in 2014 under their banner Wunderbar Films which went on to become one of the most commercially successful films of the star. The Tamil Nadu People’s Forum for Tobacco Control (TNPFTC) filed a case against the production company for failure to place statutory warnings against smoking in several scenes in the film. It was also said that at the time of release posters showed Dhanush smoking as well which is against the law.

A week back Aishwarya Rajinikanth approached the Madras High Court praying that she be exempted from appearing in person for the case and also to quash the case against her. An order was passed in her favor.

Today when the case came for hearing, Dhanush's council also made the exact same request which Justice N Sathish Kumar granted to 'The Gray Man' star. He also adjourned the case to August 10th after accepting the counsel's argument “The said provisions are only applicable for advertisements by manufacturers, suppliers, or distributors of tobacco products, and not to a film which is fictionalized depiction of a story."
