The crime branch of the Kerala Police is investigating the sudden disappearance of eight antique diamonds worth at least Rs. 21 lakh from a Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple idol.

The diamonds were part of a daily ritual and are suspected to have been stolen. 10 months ago, gold worth Rs 189 crore was reported to have disappeared without a trace from the temple`s cellars.

What comes as a surprise is that the diamonds were first reported missing in August 2015, whereas an FIR was registered in August 2016, after a priest complained again. Suspiciously, the Administrative Committee has never requested proper inquiry and had initially tried to suggest that the invaluable diamonds were not lost, only "damaged".
