The recent terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam area, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent people, has triggered a wave of anger and grief across India. Many citizens have taken to social media, expressing emotional calls for strong action against terrorism and Pakistan.

Amidst this intense atmosphere, some public figures are emphasizing peace over conflict, leading to controversy. After actor and music composer Vijay Antony’s earlier remarks stirred debate, director Gnanavel — known for films like Vettaiyan starring Rajinikanth and Jai Bhim starring Suriya — has now made comments that some interpret as sympathetic towards Pakistan.

Speaking on the current situation, Gnanavel stated that “war is fundamentally inhumane” and added that even today, wars disregard the principles laid out in ancient Tamil literature, which emphasized protecting women, children, and even animals during times of conflict. He lamented that even popular tourist areas are no longer safe.

He also pointed out a troubling incident where a child who had come from Pakistan to India for medical treatment was reportedly ordered to leave within 48 hours, highlighting the broader humanitarian consequences of such tensions.

Gnanavel’s remarks have sparked criticism online, with some netizens accusing him of indirectly supporting Pakistan. As the debate continues, opinions remain divided on how public figures should address sensitive national issues.
