DMK to hold human-chain protest next Monday on Cauvery issue

The DMK has announced that its cadres would be forming human-chains all over the State in order to protest against the Centre’s delay or reluctance in setting up a Cauvery Management Board (CMB) to ensure fair distribution of Cavuery water by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Protests have erupted across the State organized by political parties, individuals and NGOs targeting the Centre for not setting up a CMB as per the Supreme Court’s directions in its verdict dated 16th February.  The DMK, which is leading the protests in the State, has said that it would continue to protest till the CMB is set up.

Stalin, who recently concluded his 6-day long ‘walkathon’ for retrieval of the State’s Cauvery water retrieval rights, held a meeting at the party’s Chennai headquarters ‘Anna Arivalayam’ with allies and friendly parties taking part in the meeting.  The all-party meeting passed three resolutions.  DMK’s working president Stalin briefed newsmen as to what transpired at the meeting.

“We have decided to form a huge human-chain formation protest on 23rd April (next Monday) across the State involving DMK cadres and cadres of friendly parties.  We also plan to meet the Prime Minister in New Delhi to press for implementation of the Supreme Court verdict with respect to setting up CMB.  If we are denied a meeting with the Prime Minister, we would chalk out our strategy later,” he said.
