Popular Malayalam actor Dileep recently expressed, "One day, God will give me a chance to speak about things other than films." He shared this emotional statement during a press meet held to thank the media for the success of his latest movie “Bandhukkal Sathiyum,” (translated as "Prinse and Family"), which was released last week and received a positive response.
While addressing the media, Dileep credited the success of his films like “Ramaleela” and “Prinse and Family” for helping him through a challenging period marked by controversies in his life. However, he chose not to comment on the ongoing controversies surrounding him. Instead, Dileep conveyed, “For the past 8 years, I’ve only been able to speak about my films. I don’t have the freedom to talk about anything else. But one day, God will give me the chance, and I will wait for that day. Until then, I will remain silent.”
Once considered on par with Malayalam cinema legends Mammootty and Mohanlal, Dileep was widely known for his acting, producing, and singing. Fans referred to him as the “People’s Hero.” However, everything changed after a 2017 incident involving a popular actress who was abducted and assaulted. During the investigation, Kochi police arrested several suspects, including Pulsar Suni, the actress's former driver. Based on testimonies, Dileep was accused of being the mastermind behind the attack and was later arrested and bailed out. This incident and its legal proceedings significantly impacted his career and public image.
