Popular Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar (46), known among Tamil audience as well with blockbuster movies like Rangeela and Kamal Haasan's Indian directed by Shankar has joined Shiv Sena party.

Urmila joined Shivsena in the presence of party president and chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, his wife Rashmi Thackeray and other Sena leaders at Matoshre. Rashmi tied a saffron thread to induct Urmila in the party.

Urmila had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Congress and got defeated by BJP’s Gopal Shetty from North Mumbai. Later she quit the party in September due to in-house politics. It must be noted that Shiv Sena's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has recommended Urmila's name for nomination to the state legislative council from the governor's quota.
