Fatwa against MP for wearing sindoor, thali

Deoband Islamic cleric Mufti Asad Wasmi has said that TMC MP Nusrat Jahan marrying a non-Muslim is unIslamic since, as per the religion, a Muslim can only marry a Muslim. Jahan, who hails from West Bengal, is an actor married to a Jain businessman named Nikhil Jain.

The cleric today said that actors don't care about religion. Recently, Jahan took oath in the Parliament as an MP and she was wearing sindoor and mangalsutra at that time.

She started her oath by referring to herself as Nusrat Jahan Ruhu Jain and even wrapped up her speech by raising the slogan, Vande Mataram.

The Deobandi clerics have reportedly issued a fatwa against her.
