American actor Troy Kotsur has made a huge achievement at the 94th Academy Awards by becoming the first deaf male to win an Oscar Award. The 53-year-old actor received the Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Frank Rossi in the 2021 film "CODA".

Troy dedicated his award to the deaf & disabled community. "This is dedicated to the Deaf community, the CODA community and the disabled community. This is our moment," Kotsur signed in his acceptance speech. The entire audience gave him a standing ovation. Not only did they stand, but they also clapped in sign language to honour the actor.

It is worth mentioning that Marlee Matlin, Troy's CODA co-star, was the first deaf actor to win an Oscar for acting. She won the award for Best Actress in a leading role for her 1986 film "Children Of A Lesser God". CODA is a coming-of-age drama, written and directed by Sian Heder.

"CODA" is the official remake of the 2014 French film, "La Famille Bélier". Kostur plays the role of Frank Rossi, a deaf fisherman, in CODA whose wife and son are also deaf. His character struggles to understand his hearing daughter's dreams of being a singer.
