In a trend that's catching on in Tamil cinema, more directors are stepping in front of the camera—and the latest to make the leap is Star director Elan.

Pradeep Ranganathan set the tone for this shift when, after directing the hit film Comali starring Jayam Ravi, he took on the lead role in his next project, Love Today. That film became a blockbuster, and since then, Pradeep has established himself as one of Tamil cinema’s most sought-after young heroes. Following the success of Dragon, he is now working on Love Insurance Company, and has already signed on for two more lead roles.

Now, Elan appears to be following a similar path. After directing Star featuring Kavin, Elan is reportedly stepping into the spotlight himself—writing, directing, and starring in his next film. The project is said to be backed by AGS Entertainment, the production house behind several major hits. An official announcement is expected soon.

It’s an interesting reversal in Tamil cinema, where traditionally actors have turned directors—like Dhanush. Now, a new wave of filmmakers like Pradeep Ranganathan and Elan are proving that directors can also shine on screen.
