Former Schalke player Hiannick Kamba, who was pronounced dead following an accident in January 2016, has reportedly been found alive and well.

Kamba's former club VfB Huls issued an obituary for him in 2016, which read, "He represented the ideas and values of our club like few others. His demise will leave a big gap. Hiannick is undoubtedly a bitter sporting loss for us, but primarily we will miss it as a fellow human being." According to a report, Kamba (now 33) has been found alive in Gelsenkirchen, where he has been working back in his old job as a chemical technician for an energy company. His "death" saw tributes from across the nation while his ex-wife apparently collected a six-figure life insurance payment after providing documents proving Kamba's death. Prosecutors have claimed the documents to be forged and the ex-wife is currently being interrogated for fraud. "The accused is accused of fraud, but she denies the fact. The proceedings are still ongoing. [Kamba] stated that his companions had left him during the night while on a trip to the interior of the Congo in January 2016 and they took his papers, money and telephone," prosecutors reportedly stated.

"Kamba claims he was abandoned by friends overnight in Congo in January 2016 and left without documents, money and a cell phone," a prosecutor added. Further details are expected following investigation of the matter.
