Australian cricketer arrested for texting and calling ex-girlfriend 84 times in 2 hours

Former Australia Test cricketer Michael Slater has been arrested for a second time on Wednesday after breaching a restraining order, known as an Apprehended Violence Order or AVO.

As per the police’s statement, the 51-year-old cricketer has been charged with contravening the restrictions set down in an AVO, using a carriage service to menace/harass/offend and breaching bail. Michael Slater had allegedly called his ex-girlfriend 18 times and sent her 66 text messages in a span of two hours. His lawyer had later claimed that Slater was receiving treatment for an alcohol disorder.

The cricketer was granted bail by the court on the condition that he would check into a mental health hospital, and on the condition he would not access a mobile phone. “Mr Slater should be under no illusions that if he breaches bail, he will be back in custody,” the magistrate was quoted as saying by Australian media.
