Former Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee chief M Satyanarayana Rao is no more. He succumbed to COVID-19 in the wee hours of Tuesday at NIMS hospital in Hyderabad.

The demise of the 87-year-old political leader has been condoled. A participant in the Telangana movement in 1969, he became a Member of Parliament by contesting on a Telangana Praja Samithi ticket in 1971. He served the Congress party later in various positions, including as a Indira Gandhi loyalist.

It was during his reign as PCC chief that the Congress party rode to power in 2004 in then united Andhra Pradesh. Condoling his death, Santhosh Kolkunda of Congress wrote, "Telangana congress lost a leader who speaks from heart and committed to the core values of congress we miss you sir M. satyanarayana Rao garu former PCC Chief& former minister."

Condoling his demise, Loksatta's Jayaprakash Narayan tweeted that MSR's passing leaves a void in Telangana public life. "He was humane, affable, forthright & public-spirited. He showed that commitment to a party need not mean enmity with others, and public civility and private courtesy are possible. We will miss him. Om Shanti," JP added.
