Veteran filmmaker and screenwriter C.V.Rajendran has passed away due to a prolonged illness. He was 81 while breathing his last at a hospital in Chennai around 8 AM on Sunday.

Rajendran was the younger brother of director C.V.Sridhar. Rajendran assisted his brother initially before directing his first feature film 'Anubhavam Pudhumai' in 1967

He went on to direct many films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages. He has directed a few Hindi films starting from 'Dulhan' with Jeetendra and Hema Malini. He has directed many films starring Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan and the most prominent among them are 'Galatta Kalyanam', 'Raja', Vani Rani', 'Sumathi En Sundari', 'Sivagamiyin Selvan' and 'Ponnoonjal'. He also directed 'Sangili' the debut film of veteran actor Prabhu and Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Garjanai'. His last film happened to be the Sathyaraj starrer 'Chinnappadas' that released in 1989.

Rajendran's mortal remains will be kept in his home as his son is in USA and the funeral will happen only after his return.
