Genelia starrer 'Urumi' goes Japan

Santosh Sivan's cinematographical marvel, 'Urumi', will be screened at the NHK Asian Film Festival in Japan.

Released in August 2011, the film was originally made in Malayalam and subsequently dubbed in Tamil and Telugu and in Hindi titled as 'The Boy Who Wanted To Kill Vasco Da Gama'. The South Indian film is set in the 15th century and Vasco da Gama's expedition of Kerala formed the backdrop of the story.

A mix of both fact and fiction, 'Urumi' starred Prithvi, Prabhu Deva, Genelia D'Souza, Jagathy Sreekumar in the main cast. Lauded by critics, it was also lapped up by the lovers of historical-fantasy films.

Made a big scale, it starred Vidya Balan, Tabu and Arya in cameos. The dialogues, written in neat prose, are a piece de resistance of the film.

Its international stature was a foregone conclusion.
