In Tamil Nadu politics and cinema have always had a connection and this has reflected many times in Nadigar Sangam. The Sangam has organised various forms of agitations in support of Tamil Nadu's political issues like the Cauvery inter-state water sharing problems, Mullaiperiyaru dam construction row, Sri Lankan ethnic clash and Tamil people sufferings due to that etc. Many past office-bearers of the Sangam have been members of prominent political parties too and there have been allegations of political influence in the battle for power preceding the Nadigar Sangam election.

However, these political leanings will be a thing of past as far as Nadigar Sangam is concerned if one has to go by the words of the Sangam's new General Secretary Vishal.

Vishal in the press meet to celebrate the success of his team in the elections, said that the Nadigar Sangam will henceforth remain apolitical and it will not take any official stand on political issues. Vishal further stated that the decision has been taken as the elected representatives in TN are well equipped and the right persons to handle these issues and the Sangam can concentrate on the welfare of its members.
