Gilli is a remake of a Telugu hit Okkadu, supossedly an action-packed film with Vijay and Trisha coming together for the first time. Directed by Dharani, who wielded the megaphone for Vikram-starrer Dhool, the film has Vijay playing the role of a kabbadi player. One of the costliest movies to be made in recent days, a major portion of Gilli was shot in a huge set erected near Mahabalipuram.

The movie features half-a-dozen foot-tapping numbers, which are already a big hit, set to tunes by Vidyasagar.

On the movie, Dharani says, Gilli is a fast paced movie which would keep the audience glued to their seats. Vijay and Trisha's work will be acclaimed.

About the movie, Rathnam says, though the movie is a remake of Okkadu, enough alterations have been made to suit the taste and preference of the Tamil audience.
