Great Grand Masti Review

Expectations

In 2004, director Indra Kumar dared to make 'Masti', an adult comical thriller with known actors in it.  The success of this movie along with the success of 'Kya Kool Hain Hum' rightly launched the genre of adult comedies in our country. The 'Masti' team returned back with its sequel in the form of 'Grand Masti' which managed to break the box-office barometers. Thus, the expectations were sky high right since the announcement of the third franchise in the form of 'Great Grand Masti'.

Sadly, the failure of adult comedies like 'Kya Kool Hain Hum 3' and 'Mastizaade' lowered down the excitement for the fans of 'Masti' franchise. Also, the preponement of the film's release might confuse the viewer's whose spirits are still high thanks to the foot-tapping songs and the past glory of the film.

Story

'Great Grand Masti' is a story of three friends Amar (Ritesh Deshmukh), Prem (Aftab Shivdasani) and Meet (Vivek Oberoi), who fail to lead a romantic life with their respective spouses (Pooja Bose, Shraddha Das & Mishti) due to the interference of their family members. The trio reach at a point where they decide to venture into the taboo territory of infidelity. They set out on a trip to Amar's property in a village. There they meet Ragini (Urvashi Rautela), who promises to take good care of them. Amar, Prem and Meet keep trying their luck in order to win Ragini's heart by outshining each other. Later, they come to know that Ragini is a ghost looking for an intercourse, after which everything goes tipsy topsy.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The story starts on the lines of 'Masti' series and goes on an interesting level in the second half. The first half has some witty adult humour on the lines of 'Masti'. There are some funny scenes featuring Ritesh Deshmukh in most of them followed by scenes of Sanjay Mishra, Aftab Shivdasani, Shreyas Talpade and Sudesh Lahiri.

The graphic nudity is forced but, in comparison to films like 'Mastizaade', is thankfully low.Music has been a high point in Indra Kumar's films and out here he manages to get some foot tapping scores like 'Teri Kamar Ko', 'Resham Ka Rumaal' and 'Lipstick Laga Le'. Thankfully, the director Indra Kumar restrained himself from the stereotype scenes like the homosexual jokes, zoomed cleavage shots, idiotic metaphors related to sexual positions and few more which were seen in the recent so called adult comedies.

When it comes to adult comedies Ritesh Deshmukh gets it with total finesse. Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani are fine as per their characters in the film. Urvashi Rautela looks good as per her role..Sudesh Lehri and Shreyas Talpade's cameo are enjoyable.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

The second half looks interesting on papers and starts off well but, fails to do justice to the theme of the film as it lacks the conviction factor.There are many horrendous scenes which are highly vulgar and cheap. The camera work is strictly average and all the C.G.I work are below expectation level. The movie should have been trimmed in the last hour as it just keeps dragging till the weird finale.

The whole idea of inducing the ghost element seems good on papers but lost its charm while execution. The melodramatic scenes in the last hour of the film takes us back into the Jurassic era. The vulgar scenes especially all three lead heroes, trying to seduce Ritesh's mother-in-law in the film and the whole Aftab getting snake bite part makes the actors go over the top.

Urvashi Rautela tries hard to get her angry and seducing looks, but fails miserably.Usha Nadkarni as Ritesh's mother-in-law hams to the fullest. Sanjay Mishra is wasted. Pooja Bose, Mishti and Shraddha Das have hardly anything to offer.

Final 'Glitz'

'Great Grand Masti' is nowhere grand in comparison the great fun one had in the movie 'Masti'. It's a bit better than 'Grand Masti' and other adult comedies which released this year due to presence of actors like Ritesh and Vivek, but at the end of the day will manage to rake in money only due to its past glory.
