Director AR Murugadoss created a stir among fans during the promotional event of Padaithalaivan, the upcoming film starring Shanmuga Pandian, son of the late Captain Vijayakanth. While addressing the audience, Murugadoss made a surprising and exciting statement: “Grow up soon, let’s make Ramana 2,” hinting at a potential sequel to the cult classic Ramana.
Directed by Anbu, Padaithalaivan stars Shanmuga Pandian in the lead and features a supporting cast that includes Kasthuriraja, Yamini Chander, Munishkanth, Garudan Ram, Rishi, A. Venkatesh, and Yugi Sethu. The film, with music composed by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja, is gearing up for its release.
Murugadoss, who attended the film’s promotion as a special guest, praised Shanmuga Pandian’s screen presence, saying, “Tamil cinema has gained a majestic hero. I’m truly happy. When he matures a bit more, we’ll do Ramana 2. We will bring back the spirit of the Captain.” He added, “This film feels like an elephant with a lion.”
He also fondly recalled Vijayakanth’s iconic scene with an elephant in Kallazhagaar, sharing a memory of the actor once joking, “The elephant feels like my own child; maybe I should buy one.”
Following Murugadoss’s comments, fans are abuzz with speculation about a possible Ramana sequel, this time with Shanmuga Pandian in the lead — a move that would both honor his father’s legacy and potentially launch a new chapter in Tamil cinema.
