Actor and producer Manchu Vishnu has found himself in the spotlight for reasons beyond cinema, as GST officials conducted raids on his office premises in Hyderabad. The sudden inspections come at a crucial time, just days ahead of the release of his highly anticipated film, Kannappa, slated to hit theatres on June 27, 2025.
According to sources, the raids were carried out at multiple locations, including Vishnu’s offices in Kavuri Hills and Jubilee Hills. Officials are reportedly examining the financial records of his production company and associated businesses for suspected tax irregularities, particularly focusing on his investments in online movie streaming ventures and large-scale production expenses.
Kannappa, a big-budget devotional drama, is touted as one of the costliest films in Indian cinema, with an ensemble cast that includes Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Mohanlal in special cameo appearances. Manchu Vishnu, who also plays the titular role, has been aggressively promoting the film across platforms, generating strong pre-release buzz.
Speaking to the media following the raids, Vishnu remained composed and stated,
“I have nothing to hide. Everything is in order, and we’re fully cooperating with the authorities.”
The timing of the raids has sparked speculation, but officials have maintained that the inspections are routine and part of a wider crackdown on potential tax evasion in the entertainment industry.
Despite the setback, Kannappa is expected to have a grand release, with fans eagerly awaiting the film’s arrival in cinemas this Friday.
