Three acclaimed Tamil films miss out as 'Gully Boy' goes to the Oscars

Zoya Akhtar's underdog winning against all odds sleeper hit 'Gully Boy' has been selected as this year's Oscar entry from India beating out the 28 other films from the regional circuit. The Kollywood films that miss out the cut are Vijay Sethupathi's 'Super Deluxe' directed by Thiagarajan Kumaraja, Dhanush's 'Vada Chennai directed by Vettrimaaran and Parthiban's one-man show 'Oththa Seruppu Size 7'. Film lovers are also lamenting that Ram's 'Peranbu' starring Mammootty and Maari Selvaraj's 'Pariyerum Perumal' produced by Pa. Ranjith should have been in the list.

'Gully Boy' stars heartthrob Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Kalki Koechlin in the lead and deals with an underprivileged youngster who reaches the top ranks as a rapper fighting against all odds. The film is produced by Zoya Akhtar, Farhaan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
