Playing it safe in the box office seems to be the first theory of veteran actor turned politician Jaggesh in his debut as director. He had seen trials and tribulations in his life as an actor and in shaping up his son he has partially won from `Guru' a film produced by Smt Parimala Jaggesh.

A remake of Tamil film of 2011 released `Mouna Guru' - Kannada `Guru' is not fed in a comfortable way. The screenplay diverts from the main aspect. In bringing it to Kannada nativity some sharp editing was needed and protagonist Gururaj should have got more prominence to stand out as strong offender instead of falling as victim to tricks. Yet in the performance and action Gururaj is the main stay. Jaggesh as a director is not convincing.

Guru (Gururaj) staying with his mother is having different temperament from others. His way of addressing is unique. In a fit of anger he beats up for no mistake of his and is sent out from the college. As he holds fine academic records he gets admission in Art and Science College. Again in life for no mistake of his he is targeted by cop ACP Bopaiah. The contents in the bag found in the custody of Guru take him to pathetic route. Suspecting that Guru is aware of the findings in the video camera of a bag he faces the wrath from police. When he escapes from the clutches from dense forest he is again caught and given sedatives. The power in Guru is controlled via medicine. He withstands even this onslaught and put down the culprits in a sick situation. The court considers the wrong framing on Guru and set him free of killings.

Gururaj in his third film has picked a subject that gives him identification among the masses. He is very cool at times and in anger he suits the action image aptly. Thriller Manju stunts has come to the help for Guru. In three occasions through powerful dialogues - Guru gets claps from the audience for his performance.

Rashmi Gautham is a good choice for heroine. A right kind of role for a debutant Rashmi Gautham! Yathiraj brother of Gururaj has good presence on screen, Srinivasamurthy, Shobaraj, Abijit, Gauthami given their best.

Vinay Chandra upcoming music director never disappoints but more identifying numbers are required for the present generation. Ramesh Babu in his camera showed how circumspect he is at his work.

Going to `Guru' once is not a bad idea.

Score 6/10
