Earlier it was said that Director A.R. Murugadoss's Tamil-Telugu bilingual ' Spyder' has been scheduled to hit the screens on September 27, 2017 as the Dussehra festival special. Sivakarthikeyan's much awaited film 'Velaikkaran' has been scheduled to hit the screens on September 29th for the Aayudha Pooja Festival weekend.

However as per the current status in Kollywood it looks likely that 'Velaikkaran' will back out of the Aayudha Pooja weekend and Vijay Sethupathi's 'Karuppan' will be released for that long festival weekend. However this development has to be officially confirmed. First 'Karuppan' release date will have to be officially announced by the makers and the makers of 'Velaikkaran' will also have to confirm whether they are going ahead with their schedule to release the film on Aayudha Pooja or they have decided to postpone the film.

These two films apart there are a few more films vying to cash in on the long festival holiday weekend. Director Pandiraj's production venture 'Sema' starring G.V. Prakash Kumar and the adult comedy film 'Hara Hara Mahadevki' starring Gautham Karthik have been officially confirmed to hit the screens for the Aayudha Pooja festival weekend. The latter was earlier scheduled to release for Diwali festival in October but now the makers seems to have advances the release date by almost a month.

Director Susi Ganesan's 'Thiruttu Payale 2' is also expected to hit the screens for the Aayudha Pooja festival weekend. The film is being produced by the big banner AGS Entertainment. The audio release of the film is taking place this evening in Chennai and we can expect an official announcement on the release plans on this event.

Jai-Anjali starrer horror flick 'Balloon' is also trying to hit the screens for the long festival holiday weekend.

It is impossible to have seven releases for one weekend and the theaters can accommodate only a maximum of four films in one weekend. Let's see which are the films that enjoy the benefit of getting released in a long holiday weekend.
