Happy Birthday, Pawan!

  • IndiaGlitz, [Sunday,September 02 2012]

If any hero has achieved the formidable task of taking heroism itself to a new high in recent times, it is Pawan and Pawan alone. We are talking about his attitude in Gabbar Singh, of course. Raising the bar with his style and arrogant mien, he showed what a hero can do to a film. Take him out, the film would have sunk without a trace. It is difficult to remember any film where another hero achieved it so snazzily.

It is no wonder that he is aptly called Power Star. He was largely pooh-poohed for a good ten years when he continued to choose one bad script after a bland script. Komaram Puli was the last straw that broke the camel’s back. The fact that Teen Maar incurred losses threateningly threw the hint that Pawan was a fading phenomenon. Or so we thought rather wrongly.

In less than a year after Mahesh was deified to the status previously occupied by the Megastar, Gabbar Singh announced the arrival of a resurgent and formidable Pawan. When we had almost given up the hope that Pawan would ever feel the need to reinvent himself, he had earlier come up with a brilliant, under-stated performance in Panjaa. If that was for the discerning audience, the GS treat was whole-heartedly for the mass audience.

Just as Khushi catapulted him to superstardom, GS has made us expect much more from Pawan. Will he deliver it in CGTR?

He is raring to act in films nowadays. More than CGTR and the yet-to-be-titled film with Trivikram, it is the yet-to-be-announced Bollywood debut (to be produced by Konda Krishnam Raju) that will be keenly watched. Will he enthuse the audience there? Pawan is already quite popular with some Bollywood heroes, especially Salman Khan. Will he continue to do more films after that?

It would be repeating the same thing like a stuck recorder to talk about his seven back-to-back hits at first. Then, unfortunately, flops followed. Every time someone dared to relegate him to the sidelines, his films released amidst unprecedented hype and hoopla, often opening with record collections.

IndiaGlitz wishes him a very eventful year ahead!
